found a new LSX block for a decent price anyone build one before? or know how hard and how much money you have to put into a LSX block? thanks appretiate it!

i have built one up to stock spec with just upgraded intake and cam. and that was costly. and i have helped my friend build one from the bottom up. stroker with all aftermarket parts and its not cheap. i got a 98 camaro with a blown headgasket ls motor. for 1300. pulled the motor and ended up putting new bearings, new rings, block was good and didnt need machine work . deck was good. heads were not warped so i just had them rebuilt with some matching valve springs for the cam. i put in a comp cams. it was right under 600 lift. weind intake system. stock fuel rails and inj. just that rebuild i spent almost 3k and thats cuz i had a hookup on parts. i sold the car for 6500 after i fixed it cuz i needed the money but i wish i would have kept it cuz i want another ls f body car. but my boy who just built his up spent over 8k just in the engine. he had a ls7 bottom end put in it. not sure on cam but i know its a comp cam. he got a 2 piece timing cover. afr heads. i wanna say weind intake, and aftermarket fuel system. he had that car dynoed at 560 hp and 630ftlbs at 5600 and they said it was still pullin but it was a fresh rebuild so they stopped it there. its not hard to build. its still and ohv style engine and not a ohc so u dont need any special tools to hold cams in place or anything like that. just really expensive. and i think even more expensive to swap into a g body.

thanks well the guy who is doin my swap charges 2500 for ls swaps the LSX block is 1500 new any idea on how much your boy spent buildin his LSX i might do stock specs for now as well. all my money is going into that engine but i wana have a clue on how much is going to be going in that LSX because if its TOO much ill just stick with a LS2 swap instead you know. any pics of your LSX by tha way?

wow for 2500 bucks i would do it myself. and if u dont know how it would be a good learning experience. unless u just cant do it and must pay, 2500 sounds decent considering u have to used a different trans, exhaust, and figure out a way to wire the engine and ecu or else use edelbrocks carb setup. it takes alot of work for a swap. but i got to look for the pics of that camaro. and it wasnt a lsx block just the stock ls1 i rebuilt. but my friend has the lsx with the ls7 forged rotating assebmbly. i know he spent 7k on the motor. he had the block already. i remember he got it for 600. when we worked together in autoparts this guy showed up with one one day. and once we saw what it was he jumped on it. it was brand new in a crate.

i called him up. he spent a lil over 7500 on the bottom end and heads. he said he spent another 2k on his intake, oil pcv system, and his fuel rails and injectors. and he just said his trans is actin up now to so now he is gonna beef it up. it was the stock auto that came in his car.

7500 thats hella money.. i saw the lsx intake for about 900 it would be a cool build tho LSX malibu and the swap yeah 2500 is alot but he knows what he is doin ive seen em do ls1 ls2 ls7 swaps and the cars RUN i might try doin the swap myself and if i cant then ill turn to him lol but yeah LSX aint cheap 1700 for the block itself brand new is an ok deal i believe just the 10 hour drive is bad..

Good luck on NOT spending an arm & a leg on anything with LS at the beginning of it.

yeah what do you think about 1700 for a new lsx block? build might be expensive tho its just an idea my mind is still on the ls2 but lsx is floating around my thoughts also

Well, people are making 600+hp on iron 6.0 blocks (heck you can make 500 with a stock bottom end with stock L92 heads and a cam), so unless you're aiming for even more HP than that, I'd just stick with a production block and keep costs down. You can get a mostly (or completely) complete 6.0 for half that $1,700, and invest the remaining money into L92 heads and an intake, then go from there.

maybe not at this moment i want more than 600 hp but i wana make sure that later down the road when i want more HP i could depend on the engine because i know im going to want more power later i get bored fast but yeah its a big spend for a LSX build if the block is still available by hot august nights and nothing else inspires me i might do the LS2 swap and maybe take the chance to build the LSX slowly lol just some ideas you know come on guys shoot me some more ideas i know LSX's are crazy!!
