still learning about LSXs,

but I've heard numbers of 2000hp on stock bottoms in the aluminum blocks,
and 3000+ hp on iron blocks, with stock bottoms...

... I think 600hp is childs-play on a LSX

well, those motors are likely being used for race applications... but I've seen Nelson Racing Engines (NRE) put motors like that on the street.

They've also done crazy power with a standard type SBC... granted I'm sure it's an aftermarket block, putting 1,000+hp through a stock GM block is like asking for someone to steal your bank account... you just don't do it.

it seems like $1700 is hella deal for an LSX...
... but if you're not gonna drop crazy power, why deal with the costs of building an LSX?

why spend $6k getting 500-600hp
when you could spend $3k-ish on another motor to get that?

if you're later looking to run super juice (nitrous) or turbos with 25psi+ boost, then the LSX is the way to go...
but if you're gonna stick to 500-600hp, then you can comfortibly do that with another LS for less $$$

... my $0.02

I've heard nothing but good about the LSX blocks. I'm not sure of the upper limits of it are, but they far surpass any reasonable amount for a street car.

If you're looking for, oh .... say less than 650 hp, I'd stick with a production block. If you can swing the block and plan on crazy power in the future, grab it.

I'd definately not build an LSX block to stock specs. If you can't drop in a stroker kit in it, I'd pass.

An LSX block is like taking a bazooka to a turkey shoot. But if you plan on playing with the really big dogs in the LS world, you'll need it.

thanks guys.. well its about $500 cheaper than any other place with the LSX block but like you guys said if im shooting for 600hp its worthless might as well build the LS2 thats the thing tho i want to start small and go bigger HP down the road but im not too sure yet on what i should do.. maybe i will get that block build it slowly lets say 2 years and when im ready take that LS2 out and drop the LSX who knows i change my mind alot and get some crazy ideas that sometimes are too much for me lol all i know is i like to go FASSSSSST!! :wax:

If it won't send you to the poor-house, I'd grab it. But, as I said in my previous post, don't waste such a premium block to do a stock type build on. If you *might* put it to good use later, jump on it!

That'd be like buying an aluminum big block and doing 9-1 comp and mild hyd cam ... :blam:
