i recently blew the motor in my 87 monte carlo ss and im looking to put a late model fuel injected motor. does anyone have any suggestions for an easy swap on a budget? im also curious what modifications i would have to make for fuel injection.

Define "Budget". Neither of those engines are cheap or easy to install when compared to a gen I SBC. I would put a basic 350 together and call it a day unless you have over $5,000 to spend. Otherwise, you will get in over your head and the car will not live again for quite a long time.

Modifications for EFI include a ton of wiring, plumbing, a new gas tank (4.3 V6 Monte tank works if you use the right pump), exhaust work, possibly a transmission and a transmission computer, maybe a driveshaft, new pressure lines and hoses for the A/C and power steering, etc.

all you need right there. your best bet for a budget build is going to be a tpi setup. there's not an awful lot of power to be harnessed by a stock tpi setup, but it's at least fuel injection. if you want a swap that will keep you happy for a while, go with an LSX swap. i was looking into an LQ4/LQ9 swap for a while, but then decided not to for originality purposes.

if you're looking really cheap, buy yourself a 2 bolt 350, a rebuild manual and a rebuild kit and go to town.

keep in mind, an EFI swap will keep you car down for quite a while.

good luck in whatever you decide.
