I have a pair of '81-'83 Malibu taillights here. I know that LED taillights are the hot ticket these days, but there is no specific conversion kit for this style of taillight, and most of the kits that are available for other cars aren't exactly cheap. I'm looking for another option. On the '81-'83 Malibu taillights, there are 2 sockets that have the brake/tailight bulbs in them, with a space between these 2 sockets, with what looks like another spot for a third tailight socket and bulb, but no provision for that third socket. Has anyone here ever had one of these taillight assemblies apart to see if you might be able to install a third taillight socket in that spot? Would having a third bulb in that spot put an extra draw on the wiring or charging system? I'm thinking of other options for something for having a tailight treatment that would be different, and not necessarily as costly as an LED conversion. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
