El Caminos and Wagons have a longer wheelbase than a standard coupe gbody so they are longer. I assume you got a 6" tailshaft TH350. Any stock driveshaft from a TH350 coupe gbody or a Th200c coupe gbody with a 7.5 rear or 7.65 rear (monte SS, etc) will fit. I don't know the length off of the top of my head but I do know most driveshaft places only charger 150 or so to cut weld and rebalance a driveshaft. I'd say find the difference in wheelbases from a 1978-1987 el camino and a 1978-83 malibu and that'd be how much you need to have it shortened by.

Wagons do not have a different wheelbase. the only difference from the 2dr/4dr/wagons is the rear mounting holes on frame after the rear axle.. the elcamino is the only frame that is a different length/different wheelbase.

From my research in the Chevy parts book, driveshafts from 3 & 4 speed manual, 3 speed auto, & TH200-4R are the same for the 7.5 rears. Not sure if there is a different one for the T50 5 speed cars. As noted above, ElCaminos & Caballeros have longer ones. Maybe some one who has or had a T50 car could verify if the driveshaft is the same.

Mr magoo & all; My OE drive shaft was 52" (?). It came out of my 79 Malibu, 350 cu in engine with TH350 trans & 7.5" rear. I'm not sure of the trans tail shaft length, but this is the combo that was delivered to me from GM back in August of 79! Ah the question mark, well it's now is 51" as I had it shortened for my Buick 8.5". And I've been lead to believe (from earlier posts on this forum) that the Buick 8.5 requires a 1" shorter shaft. The only thing I know for sure is at 51 inches it now fits my OE trans (TH350) & the 8.5 Buick diff. I don't remember how much they cut off back in 1998, but my best guess is about 1". I know not much help, but it's the best your gonna get from me tonight, Ol'e Bob
