I just installed a Mallory 5748201 series MBI dizzy with Promaster 29450 coil (no ballast resistor as the Mallory site said it was not needed).

Problem
My coil is hot. Really hot, nothing smoking but hot.
My dizzy is now stuck. I went to adjust my timing and it as not only to hot to touch without gloves it was stuck. I couldn't budge it at all.

The care was running last night... idled fine and all. When I went to check the timing, I realized how hot the coil was and that my dizzy was stuck. I got nervous and walked away.

Questions
I haven't tried to take my dizzy out since last night. Hopefully, this am it has cooled down enough to release it.
Are the aluminum dizzys shafts prone to expanding thus seizing them up in the motor?
What is a "loom resistance wire"? If my ignition wire is not considered a "loom resistance wire" is that why my coil is so hot?

Pontiac 455
Moderate Build (375-425 hp)
79 gp

Any Advice?

They said the always get hot but didn't really comment of the dizzy not pulling out.
After it cooled down it let loose, I adjusted my timing and took my first ride since 2008!

It was also the first time I drove it since my 8.5 3.42 was installed.
Running a Ponitac455 it quickly became apparent Im going to need to swap out the TH350 for the TH200r4.
I need overdrive bad.

Advice?
I've read some on other forums. I would like to hear someone with a Pontiac motor comment about that setup with the torque of a Pontiac 455.

I have the 42 series, I will have to check the coil running. I burnt out a coil fast and the module too without a ballast resistor. I fried a 30441 coil when a heater hose blew. I am currently running a Mallory 29219, the basic accel coil was crapping out at the track.

One of the other memebers on here (84GP455) is running a 200-4R behind a 455. I plan to do the same if I can ever get away from my job long enough to work on the car again! We were talking about that setup in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=51196&start=15
