I just installed a Mallory 5748201 series MBI dizzy with Promaster 29450 coil (no ballast resistor as the Mallory site said it was not needed).
Problem
My coil is hot. Really hot, nothing smoking but hot.
My dizzy is now stuck. I went to adjust my timing and it as not only to hot to touch without gloves it was stuck. I couldn't budge it at all.
The care was running last night... idled fine and all. When I went to check the timing, I realized how hot the coil was and that my dizzy was stuck. I got nervous and walked away.
Questions
I haven't tried to take my dizzy out since last night. Hopefully, this am it has cooled down enough to release it.
Are the aluminum dizzys shafts prone to expanding thus seizing them up in the motor?
What is a "loom resistance wire"? If my ignition wire is not considered a "loom resistance wire" is that why my coil is so hot?
Pontiac 455
Moderate Build (375-425 hp)
79 gp
Any Advice?
