What are the differences in the series 32 as compared to the series 42? I'm far from schooled.

Its a 79 gp that has all the basic mods.... 455 .30 over, flows, posi etc etc. I am not taking this car to run down the strip (it may take a once in a while trip) this car is meant and built to cruise the streets while setting off a few car alarms and maybe waking the neighbors up on Sunday mornings.

I have been recommended to a mallory magnetic breakerless... I need advice and and all

Also, I want to know what is meant when it is stated that a cd igition is needed. What is that?

The 42 series is stand alone with vacuum advance. The 32 series needs the MSD 6A style box , no module or vacuum advance in it. I am running the 42 series distributor in my 403, get the 30450 coil. I had issues with the 30440 ballast resistor style coil.

What does stand alone mean? Also what is meant by CD ignition being required?

Thanks for your help.

Mallory 4258011 - Mallory Magnetic Breakerless Distributor Details
Comp S/S 42-Series Magnetic Distributor
Easy 2-wire hookup. Requires CD Ignition for operation. Adjustable mechanical advance.

These Mallory Comp S/S 42 Series distributors are designed to give your ignition system a boost. Featuring a CNC-machined billet aluminum housing, ball bearing upper and lower bushings for maximum stability at high rpm, 208 series distributor cap with spark plug wire retainer, easy-to-adjust mechanical advance, and a vacuum advance with vacuum advance eliminator kit. These distributors come ready to run right outside of the box.

Stand alone means you hook 12 volts, negative and ground, plus coil and your car starts. The CD is a seperate mutiple spark box, distributor just acts as a trigger. It will not start without CD box and coil.

So Im looking at dizzy 4258001 and coil 30450 and Im running? Is that your reccommendation?

What is your thoughts on a 29440 or 30440 coil w/ 6852m CD ignition. What are your thoughts about CD ignition in general? Benefits/Downfalls etc.?

Please reply as if you are speaking to someone who knows a minimal amt.. I need it spelled out.

Also,
What is the deal with the 57 series? How does it differ/compare to the 42 series?

All posts will be read and appreciated.
