I think I have found one of the Holy Grail 200-4r's. It's supposed to be from an '86 '87 Monte Carlo SS. I'm going to go look at it tomorrow and it would be nice if I had some kind of numbers to match to this transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks to all for this great forum.

The second letter is what matters. The CA for 1986 is the lowest performance, soft shifts at low RPM, the CZ is the highest performance, hard shifts at the highest RPM. The letters in the middle are somewhere in between.

Hey thanks guys so if I'm reading this right I'm looking for six CZ or 7 CZ or eight CZ depending on year on the identification tag if it has one lol. Thanks again for the help guys hopefully I'll be going to look at it sometime today.

One more question if it is a 200 4 r from a Monte Carlo SS is it worth $200 at least for a core regardless of the performance level.

Considering that the online retailers want between $500 and $650 as a core charge, I'd say yes
Thanks Ribbedroof, waiting on the guy to call now to go look at it, I wish I would have seen his ad sooner he had the rear end also and sold it for 300 it had 373s and posi. From his description it sounds like a working transmission from an MCSS, we'll see, lol thanks again.

The guy says it was working when it was taken out. I may just go ahead and try to build this one myself. Questions, comments, ideas, I'm in Florida, any good builder recommendations for here in Florida. Just not exactly sure what to do now that I have one in my hand, lol.

First pull the pan and see what's inside. If it's not burnt up you can get by with just the "banner kit". Full set of clutches but no steels. This will save you significant over getting the master kit.

For the TH200C and TH2004R, you need special tools for full rebuild. Just about Impossible to find. I have them, if and when you get ready, let me know.

Get the full bushing set, especially the wide unit for rear of trans. Get the wide band. One of the major issues with this series is the barely adequate narrow band that comes with it, main cause of skipping out of gear

For there get the Transgo shift kit and Sonnex .5 boost valve.
