Lemme get Nick back on track. This was a great song that Marianne Faithful also did. Not as much production as the Merrilee Rush version- but better I think.

The Faithfull version of Angel in the Morning did not get air time up here. The Merilee Rush variation did get aired but only sporadically. I had my copy as part of a music anthology record that K-Tel published periodically. The thing to understand here was that, in that era, a lot of music and movies were banned or blacklisted as "immoral" by the self appointed guardians of innocence and morality, aka the the Blue Haired Church Biddies. They applied the heavy hand of censorship relentlessly and never missed an opportunity to publically rant and rave about the "perils of sexual innuendo that infected popular music and the mass media. The other thing was Pay-ola, the practice of certain songs getting air time while others didn't because of bribes and kickbacks. Nationally, even now, the CBC and the FCC still lean on the side of ultra conservatism when it comes to what people get to see and read and watch. It doesn't help that Canadian Content Laws force broadcasters to air Canadian sourced music in preference to music from other countries on an percentage of total air time basis. Too much local "music" is drivel. That classic toy, the mechanical monkey with the cymbals does a better job of harmony and rhythm than a lot of so called "bands".

As for Metallica, they must have had a bone to pick with Molly because they changed the name of the lying cheating slitch from Jenny in the original ballad to Molly in their version. Doesn't matter apart from some music being able to benefit from a little metal plating; others, not so much
