MALIBU Mirror location

I’d like to change the the chrome exterior drivers side mirror with a bullet style. Are the locations on the door the same? The car is an 80 Malibu coupe.

All mirrors used for '78-'85 are in the same location. '86 up Chevy's were the only cars that had a change in location to use the newer style like what the 3rd gen Camaro & C4 Vette was using. Best source will be any Malibu & '78-'85 El Camino obviously. There is a posting on mirror interchanges for what other models use the same mirror with the right pedestal.

I have a 79 Malibu and the factory location for the passenger mirror seemed to be too far back and needed to be moved forward or the driver's seat needed to be all the way back in order to see out of it. I replaced mine with the late model El Camino mirrors and moved them both forward. I took the measurements off the El Camino.

This is an '86-'88 El Camino door. The mirror mount points did change, from the earlier '78 - '85 doors. Otherwise the door is the same, afaik. I have the door glass, and guts, if anyone needs PW / PDL stuff.

I did the same. I bet just moving the bullet mirrors up would have looked a lot better, and be more functional though.

It would be more functional however, I like the look of the later model SS type mirrors.

Did the change in my black 79 Monte Carlo after seeing "Training Day" using the mirrors from my long gone 86 El Camino. Just have to be sure to add support brackets inside the door to keep from having the door skin buckle when the mirrors are tightened. These will make their way to the blue car in the future.

The newer mirrors look a lot better. I got mine from a fiero.

This is what I've been going back and forth on. I have both and while I do have to cut a hole on the passenger side I really don't want to have to patch up the drivers door hole if I went with the monte mirrors.
