I have an 87 Cutlass with bucket seats that don't recline. I would like to keep them if possible but I don't have enough head room and I sit too close to the dash in the driver's seat. Has anyone modified their seat tracks to get more headroom or move the seats further back?

Also if anyone has aftermarket seats that gave them more clearance I would like to know what brand they used.

Thanks

Try removing the little round spacer (there`s four, two on each seat track`s)from the back of the seat track and use two on the front. The should set the seat in a recline position by lowering the back and raising the front. You might need a longer bolt in the front.

I like that idea. I also thought about cutting some material out of the feet on the seat bracket and welding it back together. Without the part right in front of me I can't remember if there is enough material to work with.

Could you weld some additional material on the front of all 4 seat rack feet, then drill holes in the new material to allow the seats to be mounted further back?

I had a closer look at the seat I think I could drill new holes in the tracks locating the seat further back, then cut about an 1" out of the feet and weld them back together.

that sounds kinda painful cutting 1" out of your feet and welding them back together...

the feet are riveted onto the track so you might be able to fabricate new feet
