Hello everyone! Yes im new to the site but im looking for any tips or tricks at the moment on my build.
Okay, so... I decided this week after owning my 83 Monte Carlo 305 Vin H with 41K miles for over a year that im going to build it how I always wanted one. Going to be going with a 5.7 350 bored .30 over from a local engine builder and a TH350 and 373 8.5 rear. But now here comes the beginning and the most fun part... I would like to use my factory column and ignition switch setup while deleting my underhood wiring harness/harnesses. Today I spend the day removing the inner fender wells and disconnecting the ECM and pulling the harness out of the firwall while disconnecting everything else and removing the harness until I got stuck... Yes thats right stuck... Im stuck and stumped at the bulkhead connector underneath the brake booster and wiper motor assembly on the drivers side. I seperated the large red wires that run to the starter but there was one large red one that ran to a plug on the HVAC harness so i snipped it :-/ I dont know if that was the right move in this case but whats done is done... My major question is if anyone has already tried keeping the large red wires on the bulkhead connector to the starter while removing everything else, and will i be able to make use of the factory ignition switch? I left the headlight harness etc alone. It seems that at the bulkhead connector has two plugs. The one on the left is engine etc and the one on the right is headlamps etc. Im just really at a loss and confused on how i can use my factory ignition switch and the red harness wires for my starter. Does anyone have any pics of how they did their bare bones engine wiring?
