im swapping a 305 into my 1983 monte carlo. the engine mounts are set for a v6. does any1 know which holes i use or do i need to drill my own? or do i need new chassis motor mounts?

You need the motor mounts for the v8 can be bought at a local parts store. Also you need the clam shell for the v8 the part that bolts to motor. As far as the hole on the frame you do not have to drill there is already factory holes. It simple to figue out one bolt on bottom will be in the slotted hole the top two will be regular holes. If you let the bottm front corner overhange frame about an inch you will be able to figue out what holes.

You need the clam shells for a car, truck clam shell are different. They are getting harder to find so you might want to post up you are looking. I have to look but I might have another set just sold one pair.

Isn't the frame side, rubber mount, the one referred to as the "clamshell" and the block side mount referred to as a "bucket" mount :?:

The "bucket" mounts can be had for next to nothing from a scrap yard engine pile or a local junk yard
