...is warped both sides. Where it meets the fender it is a bit wavy and leaves an uneven gap..

.Should I try warming it with a heat gun and then work out the bends?

Warm it with it held against a concave curve so the piece gets a convex curve in it.
Boiling water or a heat gun might work. Here, I would use sun. Lol
