Does anyone have any experience between the two of these springs? I currently have the cargo coils on my wagon, and the "soft" portion of the spring seems to me like it is a bit too soft. Despite trying several types of shocks, I think that the rear has a bit too much movement initially, sort of blows through that soft part of the spring and then comes up on the "stiffer" part of the spring and stiffens up in quite a hurry. There is just too much moving around in the rear for me which makes it a little bit bouncy and I think it is due to the spring. I was hoping to fix that with the constant rate 5391 spring. Does anyone else get this perception from their cargo coils?

I've had cargo coils on my wagon for quite a few years. Even though they are a variable rate spring, mine don't feel that soft. It does tend to raise the rear of the car a bit, but is clearly meant to compensate for heavier loads without compromising ride quality.
I've towed two cars with it, and also helped my friend carry about 800 lbs of VW-Porsche factory tools...besides lumber, parts, etc.
I'm using KYB Gas-adjust shocks. I plan on going with constant rate springs to lower the car 1 1/2"-2". Probably a set of A-body springs. I'm thinking #5409..still not certain.

If you want to use an open spring so you can cut or if you find one that suits the purpose you can use an F body spring isolator.... keep in mind the isolator adds about an 1" to the ride height

Steve,
I forgot the most of the rear springs are pigtailed at both ends. If I'm mistaken, the F-body rear springs are pigtailed at one end, which allows you to trim the opposite end and use the insulator.

I have an 83 Pontiac Phoenix spring in the rear of my GP. It's open on top so I could cut it.
