Well I've spent the past 3-4 days going out to the local picknpulls and have come across quite a few things. I got the rear floor pans and transmission tunnel from an 83 cutlass supreme to replace my destroyed ones after the driveshaft's catastrophic failure. Along the way, I came across over 27 200-4r transmissions in cadillacs, a regal, and a bunch of other BOP's.

The one big thing I came across that I didn't plan on was a mid to late 80's caprice. This thing has an 8.5 rear end with the 12 inch drums and still had the limited slip posi tag on it. This thing has to have some large gears in it cause I was having a helluva time turning it. The numbers that were on the ring gear were 1235128 12 41 5 89 and the rear end also had a fairly large sway bar setup. Well I wanted to snag it to put into my malibu, but one of my buddies that I talked to said it won't fit because the upper control arms are different. Is this true? The underside of this caprice looked identical to the malibu's undercarriage.

Then after walking away from the 8.5 rear end, I came across another caprice that had a 7.5 limited slip rear end. Will this one fit the malibu as well?

The last thing I snagged was one of the factory aluminum master cylinders since I currently have an iron one. It was just a matter of which one I wanted since I wanted one that was kinda clean  .

the caprice diff won't bolt into your car, its probably 3.42 gears (41/12) the gears and posi are worth having.

That's a 3.42 gear ratio in that rear... (41/12 = 3.41666 = 3.42)

The Caprice rear will fit, but it's not a direct bolt in. It is also a couple inches wider, requiring some deeper offset wheels.
The upper control arm mounts are different than the G-body, and you'll need to run a modified upper arm to make it work.
I also seem to recall that the spring perches might need to be relocated...

Some other people can probably fill in the rest that I inevitably missed...

So i take it that what applies to the 8.5 out of the one caprice also applies to the 7.5 rear end out of the other caprice as well? I found some sort of oldsmobile wagon that had an 8.5 in it as well but I could not recognize what it was and it had a lack of badging. The only thing I took off the 8.5 was the limited slip tag to put on my car's 7.625 rear end. That way no one will know its a posi unless they turn it.
