I have a 86 Monte SS thats in about 1000 pieces. The front clip is off the car. While its apart I want to replace the motor mounts but i am having trouble getting the nuts and bolts out of the old ones. the entire bolt is spinning in the hole and i cant find a way to get a wrench or socket on the back side of it. Im getting ready to replace the ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, idler arm etc... Will I be able to access the bolts while i have the front suspension apart? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You can get them with the spring out but if you have a plasma I just cut the heads of the bolts to make the job easier. I use serrated flange bolts when I install the engine mounts. I put them upside down and they grab so you don't have to use a tool on the head when tightening.

You get to the backside through the slotted hole in the crossmember and with a long extension through the area around the lower control arm front mount. A swivel adapter helps as well. I'm thinking you can reach two on each side from the slotted hole. But if you are going to tear the suspension apart far enough that the springs are out then those bolts are easy to get to.

Thanks for the helps guys, I'll have to check it out here in a bit and see what will be the easiest.

same here I've used an assortment of wrenches, sockets and extensions to get to the bottom through the crossmember...it is a pain

I didn't mention you can get them through the crossmember but it's not worth the struggle since your taking the front end apart
