I just picked up a pair of buckets for my Malibu the other day. my Mali has a bench in it now. How would I mount them. I have tracks from an old split bench from a cutty. Would I just drill holes in the floorboard where the new tracks are?

Is your Malibu a single bench or a split bench? Do your buckets have the tracks and mounts still on them?

If it's a split bench the brackets will bolt right up to the buckets, and nothing will have to be changed. If it's a full bench there are inner brackets that the inside seat tracks bolt to.

That you will need to install, as with a factory full bench the inside mounting brackets were not installed at factory.

You'll need to find the inner brackets from any G-body car with a split bench or bucket seats. When you find a set at the junkyard, you can either drill out the spot welds, or bring along a good sharp chisel and and baby sledge and cut the brackets out. You can trim off the excess metal from the floor pan after you get them home.
I just cut them out around the perimeter of the brackets.

Happy hunting! They're out there.

Here's a pic of the inner brackets...these look like reproductions..you can find them in split bench seat cars as mentioned

I couldn't agree more. Do not rivet or bolt them in. unless it's to hold the brackets in place for welding.

Kevin, those do look like repros...no spot weld holes.

Alright I guess I'll have to invest in some kind of welder. Any of you guys experienced at welding? What's a good welder for auto?
