Mounting Buckets In A Bench Car

Unless you are planning to do more welding in the future, save your pennies, any welder that's worth buying is expensive, unless you can pick up a good used one. However, mig or wire feed welders are nice for sheet metal, they vary from $100 for a cheap junk wire feed one all they way up to how ever much you want to dish out. I use a lincoln 110 mig at home, (i forget the series off hand) but it's one of the "better" 110 units they offered. It's old, I got it for free, works fairly decent, but nothing like using an industrial welder. I would stay away from the cheap "harbor freight" type wire welders, I've used one, and yes they do work, but I wouldn't trust my life with one, lol. Your best bet might be to get the brackets positioned correctly, remove all paint where it needs to be welded, rivet or bolt them in place, then take it to any shop that welds. It should be far cheaper than buying a welder, helmet, wire, etc. (it should only take about 10 minutes to burn them in).

I couldn't agree more. Do not rivet or bolt them in. unless it's to hold the brackets in place for welding.

Kevin, those do look like repros...no spot weld holes.

Yeah I thought those were Jack..grabbed the picture off ebay..I got mine from a split bench Cutlass...had to chisel the last mount out cause the damn cordless drill battery ran out on me :x

I got mine from a 4-dr split bench Buick Century. The seats and carpet were already removed, which made it easier to get to. Less stuff to take apart. Glad I got mine when I did. The sharp cold chisel cut them out fairly quickly. Of course some of the floor came out with them.

It's not a bad idea to have a welder around with this hobby..I also use a Lincoln if I remember right it's this one..

got it on sale for about have that price though...got a bottle of gas and off to the races..works really well for what we do.

Yeah man...lookin' good! Were you able to find the mounting brackets, or did your uncle fab up something?

He just fabbed up a few parts instead of hunting at the yards. Who knows how long it would have taken. Well next up Im gonna create a fiberglass console and dash when I find another shifter. Preferably a B&M Pro Stick. I may just have to wait until it warms up here in Detroit.
