The GM strike....
It's affecting everything GM. I know there's a lot of people that poo poo GM, whatever. That's your deal. For those folks, you can stop reading now and go to some other post because there's nothing else for you here.
For the rest that are considering needing to go to the GM dealership or GM online place and buy some new parts, but were told because of the strike who knows when they'll ship them, I've been thinking a little on this. If you've ever been on a semi-continuous loop of buying parts from the dealership like me, you're pretty much in tune with their periodic price hikes. Seems to hit every quarter or so, at minimum every 6 months. It's still somewhat random. In the late 90s it seemed every couple of months!! Especially just before they discontinue a part, they usually jack the price quite a bit.
My suggestion is to go ahead and order said part (you know it's in the warehouse if the dealership checks and says it is, because nobody else is getting the parts either) and pay for it at today's prices. Because whatever comes with the union/GM deal, you can bet your bottom dollar the price of parts is going to go up. And if you pay taxes on the parts too, those will go up as well. So if you need the part but were waiting for the strike to be over, DON'T WAIT. Go ahead and buy it now and pay today's prices. Then when the part comes in you will likely be getting it at a "discount" in effect because they are likely going to jack prices to help cover union cost increases.
Just something to think about.
