My 78 Salon project

I had bought this car for $500, tore it apart and painted it black, traded it to a friend, then last year got it back. Neither of us ever reassembled it. Its been wrapped in plastic in my backyard till today. I got a letter from my insurance company saying the inoperable vehicles must be removed. I have several cars behind my house. I decide to respray it, and assemble it to get it running and driving. It needs everything but I got a fire under my rear to get these few cars done. I got a rear sway bar from a mid 80s Cutlass, front sway bar from a SS Monte, and a pair of Aluminum rear brake drums from a 3rd gen F-body. I've got a 350 Chevy engine for it. It had a 305 Chevy originally. I'm going to respray it black and put a gold stripe on bottom with 442 logos. I love the car but my wife thinks its ugly and wants it gone forever. The bad thing for her is, I love G-bodys and this is such an oddball I can't bring myself to get rid of it! I'll get an updated pic tomorrow but here it is the day we unloaded it in my driveway back in 2008.

I say fix it and hotrod it, jack the back up and put some stripes on it!

looks like a good solid base for the project... these cars are actually growing on me, thought they looked just plain weird back when they were new, but starting to look better nowadays! good luck with the project. If I had listened to my wife and got rid of what looked ugly, I would've had to get rid of myself!

They were definitely an idea before their time. I say make a 442-homage, but one that moves, from it.

I got a 79 442 willed to me. Put a stroker 305 with new 3.42 gear and had the factory posi rebuilt. Put a b&m megashifter in it. Pretty sweet car for a high school senior. I love these cars despite what everyone says.

Keep the Salon and have fun. Their unique looks are a real conversation starter. If yours had a 305 in it, find a 350 for it I have had 2 of them (both 2 doors). I still have the one in my signature photo. Remove all the chrome except the b pillar and around the windows. Mine has a stroked 455 and has gone 10.75@124mph. The main thing I like is you don't see yourself coming and going like the Supreme guys do. Good luck.

I'm trying to send you a PM for parts but its saying something dont exist (can't remember). I need a complete set of factory radio knobs and front grilles. My chrome is bubbled on my grilles.
