so i finally got my grand prix back together yesterday. built a 500 hp 400 small block for it, got a th200 built up a strong as they could make it, and put 3:73 posi in it.

well i got it out on the road today for a bit of a break in, opened it up in second, when i tried to shift to third the trans popped. wont move in any gear. brown. warranty is a wonderful thing!

car is an 86 grand prix, fully loaded with t tops. (the crap on the hood and windshield is blue jay puke)

That's what happens when you put a 500 horse motor in front of a TH200 trans...
Built up as stong as they can make it or not, it's gonna fail again.
I'd try and apply that warranty credit towards a built up TH350, since that will actually last.

Do you have a 200 or 200r4 transmission?

200r4---- told the trans shop what i intended to do with it, and they thought it should be plenty strong.

what i was told from several people is that you can actually build a 2004r stronger than a th700?

You can build a TH 200 4R plenty strong for that engine, it just seems that the shop that built it failed to do so. Try to find out what failed as it would be interesting to know. Also, compared to a TH 700, it has a much better ratio spread. That is one of the nice things about it.
