Well my Cutlass should be happy this weekend. In the last 48 hours I have brought home a 12 bolt rear, a 355 Chevy (with an aluminum Edlebrock intake), and a Saginaw 4 spd transmission. Earlier in the week a friend sent me 3 Quadrajets and I also have a TPI manifold from a Corvette on the way for a later engine build that will have some forced induction fun. Oh also the guy that I got the engine and trans from tossed in a couple old aluminum wheels he had laying around that will fit the Olds.

My car got more today than my girlfriend and that is saying something

12 bolt, it should be happy. 🙂
4 speed, very happy... 😀
355... CHEVY! it won't like you very much.

Oh and I tracked down the original source of the 12 bolt, seems it had been coming from the factory under the rear of a GTO. Then at some point it ended up under a Buick, now its going in the Olds. I still need to run the numbers on the 4spd to find out its original source and gearing. As for the Chevy engine I got a good deal on it and have yet to find a decent BOP engine out here. There was a 455 from a Trans Am I had found but it was sold before I could get to it.

This car is basically going to be a FrankenOlds. The bumpers are going to be from a Regal, Chevy engine and trans, 12 bolt that originally lived in a Pontiac, my seats front and rear came out of a '98 (I think) Pontiac GTP (black leather).

I'm yanking the Pontiac 301 that the car was obviously not happy with because its dead. I may still decide to keep the TH350 (if it is dual pattern) that is in there though I really am leaning to the 4spd.

Wow, someone went to the trouble to swap in a Pontiac 301 in an Olds? :wtf: I don't think the Pontiac guys even like that engine. LOL

That'd be like an Olds guy swaping a 260 V8 in place of a 3.8 in a Buick.

IDK the 231 might be a step up .... but I know what you are really getting at. Easier to keep it Olds and skip up 2 sizes like I did. BTW, I didn't know Regal bumpers fit.

Yeah even if the 301 WAS running it would still be coming out

The car was originally a diesel and they yanked that in favor of the 301, I have no clue why but I'm assuming the diesel must have died at some point.

As for the Regal bumpers they are not a direct swap in it takes a bit of massaging and I will post up some pics once they are all done. Basically the car had no bumpers when I got it at all, there are zero Cutlass bumpers available around here so I grabbed the Regal ones. Added benefit is they are not as deep so they more closely resemble the bumpers on cars from the 60's and early 70's before they got bloated.

Very nice thanks for the tip I do need those bits and was wondering about that end of things 8)

Yeah tell me about good bumpers are hard to find. When I scrapped my 86, there was not even surface rust. Despite, the dead chrome I made it a point to snag emm. I still have my rear, but the front was on the 87 when it was stolen. I did keep the 87's slightly tweaked bumper with hopes I maybe able to un-tweak it. I would like to see the pix. I thought they were VERY different. I knew the doors interchanged. Good luck putting it back together and boy can I relate .... I lost count how many cars have "donated" to my 81.

Yep they are very different. I need to pull the bumpers in closer to the body and make some adjustment to the fills but they should work with some work. For the rear I have the Regal bumper fills to work with as well.

The really sad thing is there is a MINT '81 Olds body sitting in my yard, another diesel as well that I can't yank bits from because from what I'm heard there were enough changes none of the doors and fenders would fit my '80.
