Yep they are very different. I need to pull the bumpers in closer to the body and make some adjustment to the fills but they should work with some work. For the rear I have the Regal bumper fills to work with as well.

The really sad thing is there is a MINT '81 Olds body sitting in my yard, another diesel as well that I can't yank bits from because from what I'm heard there were enough changes none of the doors and fenders would fit my '80.

yes 81 was the first year of the newer tudor body style and none of the panels interchange. BTW, is that the 350 diesel or the V-6? (thinking the V-6 may have been only 83/84 but doesn't hurt to ask)

I still need to run the numbers on the 4spd to find out its original source and gearing.
The numbers don't really tell you much on those. If you really are curious, the numbers to check are stamped on a pad (5 digits?) just below the side cover. The other stamped number should be a partial VIN. All the casting numbers are used over several years and models. The only thing that really matters is the number of rings/grooves on the input shaft. I swiped this from another site:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saginaw 4 Speed

1st 2nd 3rd 4th
No Lines 2.84 2.01 1.35 1.00
1 Line 2.54 1.80 1.44 1.00
2 Lines 3.11 2.20 1.47 1.00
3 Lines 3.50 2.47 1.65 1.00

I've run several Saginaws and had no failures. They kind of get a bad rep but are fairly sturdy unless you do really stupid stuff to them. The most common broken thing I've seen is the reverse gear on the cluster. This is usually from either jamming it in reverse while moving or not having it fully engaged in reverse and dumping the clutch. Even when fully engaged there is only about 70% overlap of the gears. This is even more of a problem if there is clutch chatter.

It is a 350 diesel.

thanks for the info that should make things easier.

Yeah the Saginaw does seem to get a bad rep. The guy I got this from uses one in his Malibu dirt track car with very few issues.

DX block ::drools:: but damn I was hoping for the V-6 serpentine belt setup.

Alright I'm still learning here what is the DX block setup? Is this something I should be trying to grab?

There is a V6 Regal there as well (what I yanked the bumpers off of).

DX - diesel a.k.a. swap heads, intake, rotating mass (definately need to lower that compression) and after some machine work ..... the basis for a HUGE horse SBO. The mains are even 3" making an easy stroker too.

Oh okay I had heard something about that before just didn't know the DX designation. Sadly I just went out there and the engine was swapped out at some point for a 307 I think it was.

I will have to keep my eyes out for one of the DX blocks for my future twin supercharged evil plans.

Well my fuel injection arrived today so I figured I would show the stack of parts that have arrived in the last week for the Olds.

Nice! Now, get to work.
You coming down to the swap meet in April?

What date is the swap meet going to be? I might have to try and make it down. I need to haul the Olds over to the new place so I can start stripping it down. I need to get my interior pieces, sport mirrors, and a few other things hauled over here as well.

The block is going to get hot tanked here in the next week or so then have the bored honed also going to rebuild the heads and get those cleaned up. I'm trying to decide if I want to hold off a bit and go right for the fuel injection or if I want to start with the carb. For the fuel injection I will need a wiring harness and computer though I think I will just go with a Megasquirt.
