Lol dont rush it i have been gathering parts for almost a yr and a half for my 406 sbc got it all together ran iy for 1hr just to pull it apart because machine shop forgot to plate hone it. Got block back bottom end all back togethef now i lost interest go figure. Maybe next summer i will finish it.

Yeah, probly shouldn't rush it. Wow man That sucks, I bet you were pretty pissed.

Dana 60's are super heavy, a front complete D60 can weigh over 500 lbs... They're half inch wall 3.125 inch diameter tubing on the tubes, 1.40 inch+ thick shafts (can be up to 1.625 available in Dana 70's as an upgrade), and the housing is a huge chunk of iron, and a locker for one of them costs like 600 bucks. Ultimate off road axle before Unimogs or Rockwells, I'd say total over kill for anything but the most hard core drag car. The rear axle version of the D60 would be lighter without the knuckles and U-joints of the front version and what not but they're still really heavy. I'd try to go with something lighter like a 9 inch or a 8.5 ten bolt, or a 12 bolt. Plus unless you've got an original Mopar Dana 60 from a Hemi car (in which case it's probably worth some dough, I'd sell it and get a 9 inch) it's probably a truck axle, and standard single wheel D60's should be 67inch WMS/WMS and dual wheel can be up to 73 inch WMS to WMS in width. That's at least a good foot or more wider than a G-body axle plus you would have to fabricate the mounts for the 4 link and you'd have to get custom hubs unless you're cool with having a 6 bolt or 8 bolt lug pattern and having to use truck wheels since the full floater axle shafts stick through the rim and are held in from the outside by those 6 (or is it 8 ) bolts.

Probably not worth it... In my opinion.

Some good points. It is already narrowed some, and is 5 lug.

Another question, forgive me if its dumb lol. If I go with like a 12 bolt, ill still be able to run boxed LCAs for g body correct? Pretty sure it shouldn't matter but just checking. And does anybody know of any common swaps to convert an a body rear to disk brakes?

If you just girdle that 7.5 and add good axels you can go a long way on it. Stay off slicks and a transbrake. Also if you find an 8.5 you get the driveshaft with it from the donor car so you don't have to have yours cut down. Its then a drop in.

How much power could that safely handle? I just got the non posi 7.5, if I'm gettin axles I might as well get a 10 or 12 bolt with posi and run that. Just to feel safer Haha. Aren't the 8.5 pretty hard to come by?

Oh hell ya! Looks like I got me a rear soon enough, my dad is gonna be tubbing his 55 Pontiac, and doing the whole rear... and he currently has a 10 bolt posi in it right now from an A body. He said when he tubs the 55 I can just have that rear. Stoked. Thought I'd share my happiness. Lol.

I am in the 12 second range right now with my baby..Few weeks ago I ran a 12.47 @ 109 mph. I have stock suspension with the exception to the rear end🙂 I have a 12 bolt rear from a '69 Checelle with 4.10 gears, UMI Perfropmance 12 bolt swap kit...I have cargo coils in the rear and the front springs are prolly as old as the car is. I also have a driveshaft loop as it's needed for my speed. Anything faster then 11.40 nand you need a cage.....Then again, that 12 bolt rear didn't getr me there, the 10 bolt would do the same as well...Nect year I'm going with Moroso trick springs on all 4 crns and 90/10 shocks in the front and 60/40 rears, this should help out a bunch!!
My motor is a sbc that is bored/stroked to 388 ci with 10.1 pump friendly compression....Dart pro-1 200 cc alum. heads with the eddy air gap intake, performer rpm (488-510 lift) cam and a holley 750 dp. I have a 700-r4 transmission with a 3200 converter...MInd you my car weighs 3300 lbs and with me in it were at 3550 or so!!! I drive my car to the track and then drive it home....But I gotta tell you that you won't be happy...Once you get into the 12's, your gonna want the 11's 🙂

Do you run slicks?
