What would you do with it?
Needs a buch of little things: hub cap, window cranks, 1/4 trim, turn lenes, tail light bezel...all parts I have.

Runs good, interior a little rough, rear frames typical rust.

AND when did the "upload attachment" get added?

Throw a set of TA snowflakes or Ralleys on, clean it up, drop in a 5.3 and daily drive it!

Ive been looking for a Wagon/4dr Pontiac for the past year to build a daily driver.

Kent,
I was wondering if the production numbers are lower on the 4-dr models as opposed to the 2-drs. ? I know Grand Am's in general are fairly rare to begin with.

There were fewer 4 doors. I have a 79 4 door.
This 78 has an aluminum radiator support, aluminum rear bumper support and aluminum rear drums.Tilt, cruise, a/c and sport steering wheel. Probablly swap the aluminum parts for steel, "fix" some items and drive it (or sell it)
The previous owner drove it 2 1/2 hours to deliver it to me last Thursday.
I parted out a 79 4 door last January. I still have the red buckets and console that were in it...

1979 5,886 Coupe 4,021
Sedan 1,865

I'd probably go with either a 350 or 400 Pontiac engine in it, a 4 or 5 speed transmission, some good handling suspension, and a set of the 17" Pontiac rallys. Sort of a domestic BMW or Mercedes beater.

The 4 door pontiacs could be ordered with bucket seats? Didn't know that. Awesome.

Not sure I have ever actually seen a 4door Grand Am of the era nice find. I think the car is so hard to find you should go for originality on this one (except the engine lol yeah right).

Here is the best picture that shows the 79 4 door with buckets.
The seats have a small bracket that connects the back to the base which keeps them from tilting forward.

Kent,
Thanks for answering my question regarding production numbers. I kinda thought the 4-dr version was a rarer bird. It should make an interesting cruiser. I'd keep it relatively stock in appearance, maybe put a nice mildly warmed over 400 Pontiac in it with overdrive.
Add suspension mods. Nothing too radical. A set of factory wheels.

I still say a phantom Grand Am wagon would be cool as hell. Starting with a Lemans or Grand Lemans wagon...or malibu, for that matter, and adding the Grand Am nose and trim.

Not too long ago someone posted an El Camino with the Grand Am treatment. It was so nicely executed, you would think it was factory done. Although I know that the factory had build a concept El Camino..or Grand Camino.
