Not new member but got a new car! Very excited. 1987 El Camino, 4.3L fuel injection with an overdrive transmission, airbags in the back, a cowl hood, trailer hitch, American racing wheels and BF Goodrich tires! Might be forgetting stuff... I plan to keep the 4.3L in for a while, at least until next summer, and I have a built Oldsmobile 350 that I want to put in. It needs a headliner, new weatherstripping (ASAP), a new dash, and maybe a tune up.

Welp. I was a dumb***. turns out the floor is rusted through on the passenger side. Took out the seats tonight and tomorrow the carpet will be coming out to assess the situation further. Probably will just cut out the rusty portion and weld in new sheet metal. Then paint the whole thing with rust oleum so it doesn't happen again 😒

Nice!!! Bummer about the floor. Atleast they sell floor pan sections that are ribbed for strength. A bit of exsperienced advice, use Por-15 instead of Rustoleum . I replaced partial floors in a project 15 years ago and their holding up great. If you don’t mind sharing, what did you pay for that nice ride?

Well he wanted 5500, I asked if he would entertain 4500 (thats how much I sold my cutlass for, so basically my budget). He said 5000, did some negotiation and decided on 4500 cash. Still a pretty good deal compared to the other El Camino's in my area.
As for the 4.3, it rode well, but I realized there also a big oil leak extending from the front of the car all the way to the back and I don't know what it is yet.

I guess values are going up. 2 1/2 years ago I bought my rust free 77,000 miles El Camino for $3,500.

pulled the carpet today... "rust free" my a**. Never trusting another "mechanic" again. Said he replaced the carpet last year, makes me wonder what else he shortcutted. Seems we are in for a partial restoration.
