All, I am now retired and have time to devote to the things that I have long wanted to do personally but never seemed to have time for. One of these things is to finish the coding I started over 13 years ago, on a simple desktop program that contains all of the handy, useful and interesting calculations, formulas, charts, graphs, etc. that I have accumulated over the last 25 years.

I am creating this post because I am looking for ideas of what to put in the program. For instance, I read a post last night about reducing the weight on your vehicle in order to improve performance. My first thought was, without going to the track to get a timing slip every time you take some weight off the car, how do you know how much what you did will help?

So I said to myself, "Self, pay attention here. This is the kind of thing I can put in the program that would be real handy." So I got up this morning, well almost this morning, and started working on putting this function into the program.

I know there are a lot of programs out there that figure compression ratio, combustion chamber size, displacement, etc. and I have all of that but I also have some things that you don't see very often (or at all). I'm trying to make this thing as complete as possible and I would appreciate any ideas on what would be handy to have in the way of how to calculate specific values, formulas that are a pain to work with, anything like that.

Some examples of what I have so far are:
  • How much will your rpm fall when you shift gears with a certain drive-train setup.
  • Calculate piston speed.
  • Volume-metric Efficiency
  • Amount of displacement change by bore or stroke.
  • Compression ratio: Calculated - Compression Ratio Change from milling - From compression check
  • Ring & pinion required for (x) ratio
  • Chassis weight distribution
  • Lateral cg of vehicle
So if you have any ideas, please let me know and I'll pick what I can do from the list and add it.

BTW, I will post the part of the program about increasing performance through weight reduction as soon as I finish it.

Thanks all.

How about:
Tire height
RPM calculator
Dynamic Compression Ratio

Thanks for the input.
I can add the RPM calculator as soon as I finish the module for et change from weight removal.
I started work on a Dynamic Compression calculator about ten years ago but didn't finish because I wasn't sure how accurate it was going to be. It is one of the modules I intend to finish but I have to do some research before I take it on. Also, it takes some math skills that I don't have so i will have to consult with a couple of people to work out the math.
I'm not sure what you mean by tire height.
If you think of anything else, let me know.
