Huge Thanks to all here at Gbodyforum in advance,
Your kindness and wisdom in the past are sincerely appreciated and I humbly need your help again.
1984 3.8L v6 cutty. valve spring swap.
- comp cam 980 springs
- (2) different valve spring compressors . 1) overhead jaw/clamp style 2) long metal "lever" style
- new valve seals
I actually used both compressor tools. (lever style for quick removal, overhead clamp style with already compressed spring for quick re install of new spring)
ISSUE: cylinder 6 (on passenger side of motor) is closest to rear firewall and ALSO very near the heater core in engine bay and above exhaust manifold as well as AC metal tubing etc. so needless to say space is tight.
NOTE: HEADS ARE STILL MOUNTED ON MOTOR.
I have replaced seals and springs on the first 5 cylinder but now I CANNOT GET EITHER COMPRESSOR TOOL TO SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY MOUNT AND REMOVE THE SPRINGS ON CYLINDER 6.
I removed the transmission dipstick and moved the wiring harness out of the way. i even removed the EGR to try to gain space BUT...
-----[---The angle needed to use the lever compressor cant be achieved (too close to firewall)
---------The heater core encasement that sits in the engine bay is TOO close to the cylinder to use the overhead clamp tool. (reminder: this is a v style motor so the cylinder angle puts the space ABOVE the cylinder in direct line to the heater core cover) so the overhead clamp tool is impossible to squeeze in to even set the clamp.
I am stumped and need suggestions and ideas to possible solutions. I realize with as much knowledge that is here at gbodyforum that removing the heads will undoubtedly come up. but I dont have the money and or time right now being that this is my only car and as it is i had to take today off to do this work.
this is usually a quick job (usually about a half a day) so i expected it to be done and back to work for me...
I did NOT see this one coming. Please know i dont claim to be a magician with tools, but i can handle myself under the hood.
Big Thanks again to all here in advance. I know if anyone can help me, its the gurus here at gbodyforum.
with humble regards
