It is a civil matter, so the police will probably not do much. I hope you have proof of payment. If you have the cops show up, he is probably going to tell them that he performed work on it, and that you owe money. Do not just take the car under his nose. It will cause even more problems. If you can't hash it out with the dude, you are going to have to take him to small claims court and get a judgement. I have dealt with this kind of crap in the past, and believe me it sucks.

I wouldn't touch the car listed above with a 10 foot pole. It smells like its stolen, or has 50 leans against it. A car with no title is worth scrap price in my opinion.

Well here's the story I have pics and dates of when I took my body off the chassis, I have a picture when it arrived at his shop he agreed on 500 dollar payments "verbal" this deal was in August it's now the 1st of the new year and he did not do anything and demanded 2000 , I had the money but I refused I have texts were he got verbally mad telling me to go get it. He than texted me on the following day that he still can't give me my car. I've tried reasoning and being civil with him but I'm fed up as for the police they will not care because it's on his property (aholes) I can't cut my losses with the car I've had it since I was 16 and liveing on my own , I lived in my car for 3 months (winter)because of rough situations. Call me crazy but I love this car as if it was alive I can't find a trustworthy reasonable person to paint my car and do little body work here in Tulsa I've tried places and priceing is 5,000 to 15,000.... It's only paint, and body is practically strait I was told if I want a diffrent color it's 1500 more I mean comon seriously! I've tried peoples input here but nothing I just want my car back and I'll rattle can it if need be, and this guy don't even have a booth.....smh.

A quality paint job is going to cost money. It's as simple as that. I paid my neighbor close to 5K plus materials to paint my '87 and that was a steal. The paint, clear and primer for the car was close to $1500.
You have to remember that if you're changing the color of the car there is extra paint and materials involved because you have to jamb the entire car. Insides of doors, door jambs, underside of trunk lid, hood, etc.

Did you pay him anything? According to what you stated, you owe him 4 payments of $500, totalling $2k. If you haven't payed him the first payment since Aug, he prob hasn't done anything to the car. If that's the case, he should want to give you the car back.

I paid him 500 for material etc , than payments of 500 but he wanted 2k after the first month the total was 4k so I technically would owe 3500 but since the sorry sob did not do anything in the first month I decided not to pay him.

I just want the original metallic blue , I have bought the paint and was giving it to him house of kolors. Now see it in my point of view west coast customs , overhauling , those places charge 10 to 15 k and they are professionals so I won't pay some guy who got a loan and opened up a small shop to charge me the same price and not give me a deal when I'm bringing him the paint the materials and whatever extra he needs the car does not need to be taken apart the interior is good it looks like its been painted already the exterior also looks good but what needs painted is the fenders the hood the front end. I am NOT asking for a high dollar paint job I just wanted to look the same some guy says he'll paint it for 2 K in Wichita and he is known through many car clubs that's what I want background on the person working on my car.

So if he hasn't done any work to the car go get the police and let them know that he is holding your car. If he hasn't done the work yet, you can't owe him anything. He might get you for storage fees or something. Tell them you took it there for an estimate and he decided to try to keep your car. Good luck man.

this is what I have NOT i've been wanting to read....especially since I'm ready to get my GP painted! :?..

Sounds like the guy doesnt have anything on you. I think the only issue here is lack of paper work. But if you have the title, and photos of it before then there shouldnt be an issue.

Thanks for all input all I ask is if I get it back who can I take it or where to get it painted I mean I'll be willing to pay anyone in this forum who has done it etc.
