Need info on a truck to tow a trailer and car

One year at the Olds race in Norwalk, I saw a g-body cutlass pulling another g-body cutlass on a trailer. Knowing how the frames are on these cars, it's not very smart. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Oh, and I tow with a 1-ton Dodge dually with a turbo diesel. Never even realize the car and trailer are back there and get 18mpg, towing.

You can go with a 1500 but I personally wouldn't I prefer a 2500 anyday... It'll have either a 4L80E or TH400, or a C6 or Ford AOD version of the C6 or whatever Dodge uses so it's a tougher trans won't get burned up as easily pulling a trailer. And they have heavier duty axles and gears and heavier duty suspension.

I've have a couple 1/2 tons/1500's and the only difference in their favor (in my opinion) is they ride better when they're unloaded than a 3/4 ton/2500.
My 03 F150 with the 4.6 and auto pulled my 87 Salon home on a Uhaul trailer, and did fine. I wouldn't want to do it all the time, just for reliability and breaking issues, but like I said, I didn't have a problem. Now I have the 2000 Sierra 2500, with the 6.0, 8-lug, tow package (transmission cooler, 3.73:1, 4wd, trailer brakes, rated at 9200lbs pulling, though I would think that would be optimistic) and have towed my former Cruiser to Atlanta, my 87 around , and you can tell it's back there, but pulls good. The 2500 of mine does suck in terms of ride quality when unloaded, but is a capable puller, although thirsty. Around town I get 10 mpg, loaded or unloaded, and on highway have gotten 15 when pulling the Cruiser to its' new owner in Atlanta......in the end it's up to you, but if you are getting a truck 10 years or older, I would go with at least a 3/4 ton, and a 1/2 ton if say 2005 or newer.....the newer half-tons will pull as much and a little more than my 2000 Sierra 2500.
