alright, first of all anyone know if anyone makes a floor shift cable ( the one that comes off the shifter and dissappears into the floor somewhere) for an 87 monte with a 200r4 and factory floor shift??? I now need one, the blace part around the cable pushed out of its pressed (or whatever they did to put this togeather) plastic end. Next, why this prolly happened. The piece of linkage that runs down from the steering colum to the rest of the linkage (down the firewall), I just figured out rubs against my header when I shift outta park. What can I do to fix this linkage problem? I don't wanna just bend it cause wont that screw up my shifter or transmission or something?

oh yeah, and where does that cable go after it leaves the transmission? I haven't been under it yet cause this just happened so I don't know if it'll be easy to fix. Thanks again

sweet. Any idea about the linkage up against the header? I'm afraid if I bend it my shifter will be all messed up and won't shift into either park or first or somethin like that.

The piece of linkage you're talking about controls your steering column mechanisim, and acts like a neutral safety switch.
When you shift through the gears, the collar behind your ignition switch will move, like it has a phantom column shifter attached to it. When the collar moves, it prevents the car from starting in gear, or from being turned all the way off when still in gear.
Some slight tweaking and adjusting should get it away from your headers, or the fix may lie in bashing a dent into your tube to clear the rod. Another way to do it is to remove that rod and linkage all together and secure the loop on the column so that it stays in the 'park' position all the time.

Alright cool. Now that I know that it'll be fixed quick. Thanks. What about the shift cable. Were exactly does it go when it dissappears into the gromet on the floor? Is it pretty easy to get at? I havent had my car off the ground yet, and the V8 with the V6 springs sat me a little low to see anything otherwise.

Alright, back to this. My local GM dealerships (all 3 of them) cant get me that shift cable for almost two weeks! Does anyone have any aftermarket part #'s??? I got one from pioneer yesterday but got home and found out it ain't right. In guessing it's probably for a turbo 200 because its about an inch shorter. Again, I got the 200r4 in a 87 monte with factory floor shift.
