I'd like to do something about my wheels. I like the old school centerline style but I've never been happy with these, they're just too small. Especially on the rear, they have too much back spacing and I need something that will fill up the wheel well a little more.

I have 14 x 7 wheels with 205-70-14s up front and 245-60-14 in the rear. I'm thinking about going with 15 x 8s in the rear with 255-60-15 tires. I could also go with 225-70-14 all the way around and keep my present wheels. I'm not quite sure what to do here and I'm looking for some direction. :?

I think the problem isn't that you need new wheels. you just need a new car.

Then I will take that Malibu off your hands

But seriously as for wheels. I'm not a big fan of those Centerline type wheels. But they look pretty damn good on your car. If I was you, I would go for a set of 15" ones the same as you have. Or, a set of 15" Cragar 5 spokes would look good on there too.

15x8s, with 255/60R15 is a great idea for the rear. You could even go up to 275. Avoid anything more than 4" backspacing with tires this big.

4" backspacing on a 8"wide rim will give you neutral offset (0mm), so it will push the wheels out farther than you have now, and fill up the wheel well alot more.

15x8 Centerline style rims are very common. You may even find some "knock-offs" for cheaper.

PS: nice cat!

Im kinda in the same boat. I have the original buick rally wheels but I just want some new ones to go with my new paint. I have been considering these wheels to keep the classic, muscle look. Do you think the 15x10 will fit? Ridler Prostar 15x10 5x4.5 -44mm (3.75" backspace) polished wheels. These are the specs for a ford. I am not sure if the backspacing or offset would be the same for our lug pattern.

These are the 15x8

Thanks for the replies!

Those are some nice wheels. I've always liked the drag stars.

These are the ones I've been looking at. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARE-615861/exactly the same as the fronts except in 15". The back space measures 3 3/4" I have plenty of room to fill between the tire and the fender, so I think I'll be OK with these.

That cat was my garage cat. She passed away about a year ago from liver failure. Whenever I worked in the garage she was always right there with me.

i dont know if 10 wide wheels will fit because im running a 8inch and mine dont have a hole lot of room really so get a spacer if you are going to go with them.. thats my thought

kingcolbert83,

A 10"wide wheel will fit... Remember, the magic number is the 4" backspacing. Anything *LESS THAN* 4" backspacing will work, and keep your wheel/tire from rubbing on the frame rail. The 3.75" backspacing you are looking at is popular for people running slicks on our G-bodies.

However, with a 10"wide wheel, you may run into problems on the opposite side, where the wheel may stick out past your fender flares.

I say there is no need to get crazy with 10" wide wheels. They will stick past your fender flares, and your car will look worse than a redneck camaro. ha ha...

Why not stick to 8" wide? It'll look classy, while still giving your car a nice wide stance.

Hey loneagle,

Not to get off topic here, but what kind of hood do you have? Fiberglass or steel?

I would stick with 15x8 wheels and would not go any larger.

So if 4 is the magic number...I am to assume a 20" wheel with a 7.2 backspacing wouldnt fit without a frame notch? Offset is +45 which tells me I would have to run at least a 2 inch spacer/adapter

In all honesty, I've never had experience with 20"s...
but yeah, I would assume something like a 1.5" to 2" spacer.

I once tried to put 17" corvette rims on a camaro, which had +58mm offset, and that needed 2" spacers. OR, notching the frame is the other option.
