need tires for my just purchased 83 Hurst/olds ..The ones on there are original factory Goodyears ,,31 yrs old.
I want to keep the original look with raised white lettering and stock size of 215/65/15....
All i'm really finding is the BFG Radial TA and the Cooper Cobra radialGT...
Anyone have any experience with these tires ? I can get a"brother in law " deal on the Coopers,,and get them for a lot less than the BFG's...
But $$ isn't everything here..I would love to save the coin,,as i just got the car and have plenty to do,,but will gladly pay for a superior tire..
Also looked at Kelseytire .com and their Goddyear Eagle reproductions,,but at $340 apiece,,i hold back from those..

So what do you guys use and recommend on your G-bodies ??

Erik

Firestone firehawk indy 500

Im running 215/65/15 front 255/60/15 rear

There a little better rubber comound than the bfg

I run bf goodrich radial t/a's p235/60r15 all the way around

Sorry. Had to get the BFGs. I couldn't turn down $624.37 installed. PLUS, I 'm getting a $50 factory rebate. 😀

I think that rebate ends Oct. 31st.

195/75/14, 215/65/15 and 235/60/15 are all 26 inches in diameter, so no change in speedometer gear is required. I'd suggest the 235s - wide patch on stock 15x7 rims without looking silly.

Take a look at TireRack.com. B F Goodrich Radial TA 235s are $140 each, plus about $15 at your local tire shop to mount/balance. Don't forget $50 - $65 in shipping, but no taxes.

If you're not hard over on American brands (made in Mexico, of course), Sumitomos (made in Thailand) are $65 each for the 215s and have a good rating in the reviews.

I put the MT St's on my car as the BFG's were on backorder and I never really liked them. Wish goodyear would bring back the eagle st's !

I would keep the original GT tires and put them up somewhere after you put a new set on just to have them for originality sake. You might also check into the Futura Super Sport tires at Pepboys, I'm running them on my car. They're a good looking tire for the money. I generally buy them cash and carry and have them installed at a local shop as it's much cheaper to do it that way. The Futura tires are manufactured by Cooper. You should be able to buy a set of four there for about $300-350. Just another option

So spill the beans. What didn't you like about them? What have you compared them to?

I used to be a bfg radial ta guy but the fact is bfg hasn't made any improvements to them. They are for sure a classic looking tire but the rubber compound is just too hard. The cooper cobras are somewhat better and the indy firehawk seems to be the softest and still last. That's what I run for a white walls. But I do have a set of nitto 555r drag radials at the shop. Just too easy to smoke a street radial but drag radials suck to get stuck in the rain with. Overall though I like running raised white letters for the classic look.
