Hello everyone. I'm new here. This is a great site with a lot of useful information and some amazing cars. I know absolutely nothing about these cars. I've mostly owned Fords, but I do have a '91 S10.

I made an impulse purchase a couple of weeks ago. At first I was having second thoughts as I already have too many cars, but now I think it will stick around for awhile. I drove it 40 miles home and it drives nice. I know the 267 is pretty weak by today's standards, but its not too bad. I really like the size of the car and the boxy style stands out among all the bubble cars and SUV's on the road.

The paint is original and some of the front sheet metal was replaced at some time. The odo says 75K and the seller said it was actual miles, but I don't know for sure.

There's some surface rust in a few spots, but no holes anywhere and the frame is solid.

Ouch! This is the worst damage. The PO recently had the exhaust installed. It looks to be well done and it sounds great.

Interior isn't too bad, but the rear panels and the headliner will need some attention. The aftermarket receiver install looks a little sketchy. I was told that toggle switch is for the high beams, but I'm scared to try it.

PO was chasing down an interior leak so some of the trim is off, but I think its all there. I'll need to do something about those speakers.

The car runs good, but the choke doesn't work and the cruise control is not hooked up. I noticed the pcv valve was clogged and the vacuum hoses look like they're original so I'll need to catch up on some maintenance.

I probably won't be able to do much for awhile. My plans are to keep it mostly stock including the bench seat, 2v carb, and 14" wheels. The only thing I don't like about this car is the lack of gauges so I may do a cluster swap at some point.

Nice car it looks nice, if you don't mind me asking what did you pay for it

Thanks.

I paid $700. For some reason, I'm attracted to small boxy cars and I had been looking at older cars like Darts, Novas and Falcons. This car seemed to be priced well compared to other cars I looked at. I know it will never be worth much, but its just for fun - not an investment.

I want to keep this project low buck so I'll be tracking my expenses as I go along.

Mach5,
Welcome to the site.
It's nice when you can buy a car with no major problems, and can drive it while you fix the smaller items on your list.

Welcome aboard!
Looks like someone put a '78 grille on it. You did say that you thought the front sheet metal had been replaced.
Take good care of that grille, they don't reproduce them.. '78's that is. They are hard to find. '80 is another year that isn't reproduced.
You could more easily find a '79 grille, than a '78.
Good luck with the car. It doesn't seem like a bad project. Is there much rust on it? Frame rails, floors, doors, etc.

will never be worth much!? ah you just need to find the right market 😀
thats nice though, mine was 400 without a motor and with a snake living under the backseat!

Thanks Everyone!

My plan is to start fixing the small stuff and just do a cosmetic overhaul next year. I bought a service manual off ebay yesterday, but I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions as I go.

Thanks for the heads-up on the grille. I don't know if you can see in the pictures, but the fenders are a different color so I believe some stuff was swapped around at some point.

As for rust, it doesn't look bad too me. I crawled around under the car last night and the frame is covered with surface rust, but its all solid. Were the frames on these cars painted origianally? The floors look clean from underneath. I pulled the carpet back a little on the driver's side and I can see some rust on top of the floors. Bottom of the doors also show some rust but the metal is all solid still.

Dave,
Sounds like you're off to a good start. That quarter panel looks like it could be straightened with the right tools and technique. Just drive it and chip away at it as you're using it. They do make good daily drivers.
