i just got an 84 H/O that has sit outside and not running since 93. i have most stuff working and running now but need help with the lightning rods. there is a little "spring ring" that holds in the button spring on the bottom of each lever. two of these rings are broken. this shifter looks great and even function great on the main shifter but the 1-2 and 2-3 shifter have these rings bad. where do i get these rings?

i also need the drivers door latch mechanism that mounts inside the door. this one was rusted and i had to break it through the window channel to get the door open.

thanks for any help you can give, i will try to post some pictures tonight.

for your Lightning Rod questions i would recommend checking with "88Hurstolds". Real nice guy and he really seems to know his L-Rods.

here is a picture. i sent a PM to him. there is one on eBay but i bid $10 and the reserve is not met. i don't want to spend to much on this shifter till i know more about the parts availability for it. the shifter is great other than these rings.

Not to be nosy but how much did you pay for your sweet project?

Interior looks pretty good to me! Dash looks clean 🙂 Great Start if you ask me!

$1800. i have not put any more money into it yet because i had most of the stuff to get it running and drivable. by the time i start to drive it as my daily driver i will have $2000 in it. the paint floor pans and driver side door are shot. i hope to get a latch for the driver side door soon. i am going to hunt through some junk yards monday.

Never got a PM from you...
Try oldsgmail.com otherwise you'll need to custom fab something up or find a trashed 3-speed shifter, these shifters are NOT cheap and are very sensitive to any ware. Be sure to adjust them correctly and grease them good otherwise you'll wind up breaking pins and causing ware to the pin channels which are KEY to these shifters to function correctly. Find a new cable from a 77-82 Corvette for $60 while your at it as well.
I always laugh when I see someone spend a ton of money on one of these on eBay not knowing the full condition, sure it may look nice but if the pin or pin channel on the main lever is worn just a little bit they become junk and bind. Good rule of thumb is to find a very nice 3-speed shifter and swap all the parts to repair the more rare 4-speed. The main lever and guts are all the same, the 2nd and 3rd lever, chassis and cam are the only things different between the 3 and 4 speeds. Also, the spacer between the 2nd and 3rd lever is wider than the one between the 1st and 2nd. Replace the thin spacer with the thicker and it will eliminate the wobble, you can also fab something up as well. I've rebuilt quite a few of these using junk 3-speed shifters as parts and have them working just as good as new.

thanks, there is little to no wear on this shifter the pins look great and the slots also look good that the pins slide in. this car was parked in 93 with 114,000 miles. it don't look to have ever ben abused. i am thinking about trying to cut a roll pin real easy so i don't get it hot. i think that will work. also thought about turning out a brass bushing to a tight fit. the lever looks strong enough to support a slight press fit.
