My new build is slowly making progress.I started cleaning the block,but I am waiting on a set of engine cleaning brushes to arrive.
I do have the crank sitting in the block,and I was going to put the pistons on the rods,but after looking at the wire locks that hold the piston pins in place,I decided to have my machine shop,A&J Automotive,do that for me.
I should get those early next week,then I can mock up the rotating assembly and find out if I will need to do any grinding for clearance..
I asked Mike Lewis about the heads,he said that other than cleaning them and oiling the valve springs,they are ready to install.He installed and checked matching springs and tool steel retainers.
I had told him my app deck height,and with the semi custom Autotec pistons and 0.040 Cometic gaaskets,the quench height should be 0.040.
I did spend app 45 minutes on each piston top,sanded them first with 600 grit paper,then 1500 grit,then a quick polish with my Bush Super Shine aluminum polish;
Still quite a lot of snow here,and there is tons of salt still on the roads,so driving season is still quite a ways away.
