carpenter383,

I have always liked the Q-jet. One only needs to go back and look at the mods they did to the Q-jets to run in the stock classes (with big blocks!) during the late 60's/ early 70's. A problem they had back then was not enough fuel capacity at the carb at higher RPM limits IIRC.

I found an old burnout pic of my car, but I don't see "attachment" (with the paper clip) How do I post a pic?

You would find a few hp at WOT with a Holley etc short of that assuming you have a real driver because of the overdrive you have a much better carb with the Q-jet. My 800 cfm Q-jet fed my 509ci gbody to 110mph in quarter and WOT to about 140mph without fuel starvation at a rock steady 5 1/4 psi according to the fuel pressure guage I had mounted between my return style regulator and the carb. Never a miss spit or sputter.

Although the Q-jets do not seem to like wilder long 250@50+ duration cams that rowdy small blocks sometimes have. Then again thats not a car that you would typically find with an overdrive trans.

Welcome! Would Love To See Pics! Enjoy Your Stay!

Mt q- jet is from JET it's a stage 2 and was supposed to match my combo well, but I had to drill the idle feed holes to get it to idle. I also drilled the main jets slightly and set the air valve with the lightes tention I could get by with.
My cam is a comp xs282s, solid flat tappet with 4/7 swap. .520/540 lift 244/252 @50 110lsa. With this cam and aprox. 10-1 compression I have barely enough vaccume for power brakes. In hidsight I should have went with the next smaller cam.
I have a 3500 stall t/c with lockup and 3.91 gears.

Yea no wonder you had to work with it a bit to get her to idle. Your on the edge where most go to a square bore carb. Where WOT overides transient response & mileage. But with the overdrive you must have some plans of taking her on the highway. I bet mileage is still bad despite the overdrive but at least the rpms are reasonable for a Power Tour run or something.
