Hi my name is Bob and Since its always good to try to get information from where ever you can get it I decided to register. I own a 88 4.3 v6 chevy monte carlo. Just had it pass inspection and it's still a work in progress and im still learning. After my inspection they told me to teflon tape the adapters for my oil pressure switch since they were leaking and i did so once i got it back from them. After i did that, it was running real rough till the point im at now...which is when i have the hood open from almost any point it'll run, the inside lights come one...but if i shut it all the way, interior lights cut out now and the fuel pump doesnt come on either only check engine light comes on with the hood shut and it'll crank but sound off? Ive done alot of work to this car(had the engine re built by a shop, trans and replaced most parts up to even a new ecm) and this is the oddest thing thats happend to me so far. today the only thing i messed with was the oil pressure switch and now all this odd stuff is happening. ill keep checking connections and hope for some insight, thanks!

First of all welcome to the Forum! I live in lower makefield Bucks county, so not too far from Philly. Originally from philly. Sounds like you have a few problems happening there huh? Hopefully you haven't got a pinched wire somewhere. Battery terminals hitting the hood. Pinched the oil pressure wire or broke it for that matter.

The 4.3 V6 in your Monte is most likely TBI. The oil pressure is read by the ECM, if it is below a certain threshold, the car won't start. If memory serves me right, you won't get any fuel.

Since that is the only thing you messed with, and now it is not starting, I would double check all your work. Maje sure the wire is not broke, plugged in correctly, you didn't get Teflon tape covering the hole to the sender.

Good luck.

Thanks, on another post in the help section some one mentioned the sensor being grounded via its threads and all the teflon tape i put on it, is messing with it. Ill probally go tinker with it some in a bit, its just a pain getting to that switch

Welcome! Gotta love those electrical issues....they are the worst in my book! Good luck with it!
