Hey all, yet another new guy here. Actually new to GM’s all together, always been a Ford guy but have wanted to build a Regal/GN for a long time. I remember being younger when those GN’s came out and there was nothing like them, I was just never a fan of the (sorry to offend some) weak, leaky 3.8 so I picked up an ‘85 Limited from a little old lady, bone stock with 60k original miles a couple years ago and have slowly started building my idea of a GN.
Did all the suspension over but went mello as I don’t need a corner carver and like a nicer ride so went with stock springs but got the good Bilsteins and an 1-3/4” hollow sway bar, 16” GNX wheels and 245’s all around.
Found a guy who had a poor old rotted out ‘84 GN sitting in a feild and picked it up for $750.00 Turned out it had the original motor, trans, turbo, wheels, etc. but was sadly rusted all the way thru. Torn the hood, wing, interior, etc off and sold the rest for more than I paid for it.
Torn the Limited apart and did all the body work and had a guy paint it, had all the trim and bumpers powder coated, had a guy recover the old GN seats to match my tan interior (I like Black and Tan a ton more than black and grey).
Picked up a super complete 5.3LS, computer, full accessories, pedal, etc. and 4l60e trans, and a new Quick Performance 9” rear with 3:25 ratio. My plan is to leave the LS alone and put a small cheap turbo on it and have a very reliable fun car with a little power but not too much where it’s no fun. I’ve built a few cars in the past and regretted going too far with the power and lost the fun of driving in the process. It’s been fun having my two daughters out there wrenching with me, I think that’s the best part of building cars.
I’ve never done an LS before so will for sure have plenty of questions, and looking forward to making some good connections on the forum. Thanks for listening!
