Finally got green light from wife to get going on a garage. Only thing she asks is it is big enough for her car and our tahoe. Sounds like I need a 3 car garage. I'm hoping someone on here has one n can give me the dimensions. Thinking bout making it 2 story so I cam have a man cave 2
Needs help/ideas on concrete thickness lighting for my end for my playing. Like to be able to wrench and paint I'm same spot. Any and all ideas and comments are welcomed.

maybe a 4 car would be better so you can but the car in the garage to and also have a work bay

You need to visit the garage journal forum. You can read for days about garages.

The 2nd floor is a good idea. I love my 2nd floor shop space. Oh yea, it can NEVER be too big!

your prob going to need someone to actually design you something like that, are you trying to build this yourself, or you gonna have a contractor and just want ideas to give him input?

if your budget allows, i say go for a 4 car, put lounge over 2 car section, where you would park your wifes car and you DD. the youll have space for project car, and lift at furthest end away from lounge area... put air compressor outlets on all walls...

on the furthest end away from lounge, you can install the large "paint booth" style plastic curtains, it pulls open and can be closed Velcro keeps it close, while you are painting in the garage... then, if budget allows, you can install a prop ventilation system on that side of the garage, without having a real paint booth, you can still produce some crazy stuff with this setup...

the curtains are kind of like the ones the hospital uses to separate bed in an emergency room setting (for your visual)... but are obviously bigger and attatch using rails on the ceiling

I plan on doing most of it myself. I don't do electrical work. Only thing I know bout electricity is it runs on smoke. Once u let the smoke out it never works again. Love to do 4 bay but doubt money and room will allow it. I've built barns and additions to houses not that hard. I will sub out concrete work. Thinking 6" better safe than to thin and bust threw. I guess I didn't look hard enough on here for garage ideas. Lol

Are you planning on a car lift at any point in the future? The 2 post style have pad requirements you need to consider. I didn't plan for that, so when I add a lift I will have to do a 4 post. There is so much that can be done cheaper if planned in advance. Start off with a dream garage list and plan off of that. (floor drain, electric in floor for a hoist/mill/whatever, access in slab to bring in water/waste exit, future internet /phone lines) plan ahead now so you don't need to modify anything later.

good luck and post pictures

Lessons I learned.

You can't have too many lights or outlets.

Pay attention to the way the garage will face. Mine has the overhead door facing west and the afternoon sun is murder. The prevailing winds tend to blow a lot of leaves and trash in when I open the door.

Sorry bout that, I blow my leaf debris over the ridge on my eastern property line

I'm little limited to space on land by house. Got choices to face west or south. Was thinking west till you brought up winds. What kind of lights are you using? Got lot of ideas running threw my head but I'm trying to calm down n stay in the sane world for now.
