Hello fellow Gbodians 😛 I just got my 87 regal base and it needs work. Not only for what I want to do with it. Part of it is restoration, collecting parts, info, and a whole lot of corrections. One of the previous owners put in a gn interior(needs resto). But here are the probs. the back up lights don't always come on. the column shift still moves with the floor shifter. the bracket is incorrect, so I can't shift down to 1st(cause of the incorrect bracket and mickey moused job). Anyway Its good to have my second buick this time a rwd coupe. My first being an 84 skylark. Well I look forward to talking to others and sharing info.

Welcome!

The collar of the steering column where the shifter would be, is supposed to move with the floor shifter.
That is how the mechanical key lock/neutral saftey is controled, as well as your malfunctioning reverse lights.

So if im going to be doing a bucket seat console conversion, i shouldnt get a column without the shifter?

Thanks for the info, But what about a car that came equipped from the factory with a console floor shifter? Later down the line I may replace the whole steering column with that of a floor shifter version.

You can still get buckets. You just might want to find a console to put in the center. Otherwise you have a big empty hole. I keep trying to rest my elbow on the center console but I forget that its lower. Also if you can find it, the available leather 45/45 seats for an 87 regal has this nice center console(can't tell if it has a shifter on it) but it would take up that space between the seats.

Oh Ok, So instead of replacing the whole column(it was fixed from that gm loose column thing that is common to gbody vehicles) I can just try to find that metal piece.

Its not really a big deal it just seems to get in the way if and when I need to service the instrument panel(I need to replace some bulbs). Thank you

would you know if a thm350 shifter bracket would fit the 200C?
