Very nice & I see you have the rare non cracked dash option. Can't wait to see the future progress.
I literally did the same thing today. Bought the same quadrajet i currently have on my regal on ebay for 50 and a rebuild kit from quadrajetparts.com. Going to have a hand at rebuilding it (i have done my boat carbs so i figure this cant be that much harder) and swapping whats on for the replacement. This way if it doesn work i swap back and try again. No harm no foul!If you go qjet, DO NOT GET ONE FROM THE PARTS STORE. Grab a core off ebay (for a Chevy 5.0, 5.7 may be a touch rich) or the junkyard and learn how to rebuild em. You can walk out of there with a handful for under $100 bucks. Throw a $75 worth of parts in each one, sell em for $200 a pop. Boom. Or get one rebuilt and replated for that shiny factory look from Everyday Performace, Quadrajet Power, SMI, etc.
Yeah, quadrajet parts is an awesome place. Just type in your carb number, grab the kit (I also grab a new float, ethanol resistant accel pump, O-ring well plugs, throttle shaft bushings, among other things), and off ya go. Quadrajets aren't any more difficult than any other carb. Tip: the roll pin that holds the accel pump arm (green thing) needs to be knocked out to get the air horn off. I put a dime between the choke tower and the arm to "catch" the roll pin and prevent it from going too far. It gives it just enough clearance for the arm to be removed. Use a little finish nail and a small hammer to tap it out. Anyway, just take lots of pictures, do NOT touch the APT screw, or if you do, count how many turns it is from seated and reinstall it as such. The hardest part is getting the damn primary metering rods in the holes and not having it pop back up when putting the airhorn back on.I literally did the same thing today.
