Am I the only one here who sees a coming disaster for the new Challenger, Camaro and Pontiac G8? ( And Hyundai Genesis to a lesser degree) I mean, they are VERY expensive domestic cars that use a lot of gas in an era when most people are broke and gas is at an all time high. It seems like the timing could not have been worse. The sad thing is that it is likely that no one will ever try again to produce this sort of car after they flop this time. With looming CAFE standards and shifting market interests, it is unlikely that we will ever again see a RWD V8 2 door car designed for the masses.

i agree that timing is horrible. A little part of me doesn't like seeing them come back either. The charger for me is forever ruined after my dad and i had a 69 these news ones just sicken me. PERSONALLY these cars meant more when they were first made. These recreations i think kinda ruin it. And keep in mind i am just a kid at 19 and still have huge respect for when these muscle cars first came out. They were brillant. Now it just seems a step in the wrong direction.

agreed... i don't think of them a muscle cars..

we should have alot more efficient cars by now... i mean.. my civic gets exactly half the mileage of my regal or SS... but its also half the car...actually.. 1/4 the car..

ill keep this short

but I totally agree and I think new cars are pathetic. If they want something fast that burns up gas simple go back to the old style cars our and all the others. The End new cars are gay

Gm fails hardcore.
Along with all the other companys.
What they needed to do was make a car the size of the grandprix from 95 - 02? 2 door.
ls1 powered auto or 6 speed option.
for sub 18k.
That car would be a number oen seller to muscle car people.
Basically a 4th gen camaro without the suck.

Unfortunately, it is not economically possible to make such a beast. Today even a Malibu 4 cylinder is knocking on the door of $20,000 and it's a volume model. GM does not have a high volume model to base any such car off of, so the production costs would need to be amitorized over just the run of that car. That's just not gonna happen. the closest we may come to a cheap, performance RWD car in the near future is the Hyundai Genesis coupe.

Actually they pretty much did. The GTO, with the exception of the price of coarse. And I agree, the timing is terrible, but some of these new cars are pretty nice though still not what they should be. We use to have a 300C back in 2005 when they first came out with the 5.7 Hemi, on the highway, it did just as good as our 2000 Accord V6 with it's 'displacement on demand'(I know that's what GM calls it, I can remember Chrysler's terminology). It's was fast, a blast to drive but around town it defiantly wasn't our Honda. The Magunum and Charger, same way I actually think the cars with the V6's loose all there appeal and just simply become another car like everything else, with the Hemi's though there pretty nice, but I too believe they killed the Charger name by putting it on that car, nice car but call it something else, IT'S A 4 DOOR!!! But like the new Challengers, Mustangs and Camaros, nice, very nice looking cars (in my opinion), and Ford and Dodge are already selling lots of these cars. People like them. What about the SRT 8 Chrysler's??? 425Horse 6.1 Hemi's??? Basically there giving people the chance to buy an already fast car right from the factory, just like they use to do in the 60's and 70's. However with the high prices it makes it alot more limited on who can buy them. And besides, how good on gas are most of our cars???

The problem with them is very much the price. For the same money, you can have a BMW or a Mercedes, and let's be honest it sounds a lot better to say you drive a BMW than a Chevy or a Dodge to most people. Compared to these European rivals, the chassis tuning will leave a lot to be desired because American companies, for whatever reason, like to tune their chassis too soft for aggressive driving.
