Hello All! Been a member for a few days and have been peaking around looking at everyones' rides and such. I love the environment thus far and GBF seems to be pretty active. I'm sure I'll fit in just fine.
ANYWAY down to the important stuff. Just closed the deal on a 1978 Grand Lemans Coupe. It has the Chevy 305 in it. Automatic with floor console. Can't seem to find a solid answer on what color it is (maybe someone can chime in, haven't seen the color too much). It runs, drives, stops. I know the owners since it was purchased off the showroom floor. The car has 62,000 miles on it. It's dirty in the pictures as it's been sitting around a year.
So here's my story. I posted on Facebook how I'm loosing my mind without having a project car. My first car was a '78 Chrysler Lebaron, it was in rough shape. It was a DD I got for $800 at 16 years old. I was also working on it to look better and more importantly, run reliably. It had a 318 in it with that stupid electronic spark ignition they ran for 2 years, and I always had problems with it. The transmission blew and I had someone give me cash and they came and towed it away. Then I bought a '84 Buick Lesabre. Low mileage w/ 50k. Bought the car and looked at the original manuals and maintenance records and it turns out it was my great aunts car that she bought brand new and sold it with 4k miles on it because it "was too big". Then traded the Buick for a car payment at 18 (worst mistake ever) due to commuting long distances to school and work. Then two years ago I met a girl and while together she bought a '75 Midget that I always got to work on and it drove and was a fun little car, welp, an ex is an ex. So that project was taken away.
SO here's the Lemans story. I posted on Facebook like I said and my brother's best man in his wedding commented about his mom wanting to get rid of a 1978 Grand Lemans. I knew what the 60s-early 70s Lemans were but didnt know what this Gen looked like. Turns out, it is a coupe with the Chevy 305, auto on the floor. His grandfather bought it brand new in '78. Drove it slightly, garaged it everyday. He passed away about 8 or so years ago and gave it to his son. It remained garaged. His son owned at the time several Lemans, a '72 and also a '74 and now the '78. He kept it garaged with Cragar SS on it. Never drove it. His DD got totaled and was forced to commute using the '78 for three years and put the rest of the miles on it. Unfortunately, he passed away around a year ago. So when I posted the Facebook post, his son (my brother's best man) said how his mom is trying to sell the '78. She got rid of the '74, and he took the '72. So I went and looked at it. It ran and drove when it was parked in the driveway a year ago. But didn't run currently. It needed a battery (which he threw in). Went to look at it, everything looks great. Turns over right away. Runs and drives and stops perfectly. It was hiccuping under acceleration at first due to being rainy and gross (most likely). A/C blows cold. Has a slight rust spot on the trunk from the paint being chipped in one spot. The rear chrome bumper molding is missing (any help on locating one?) and has a slight booboo on the front due to getting towed one time. Alternator and radiator/hoses were replaced before being parked. It also comes with the stock Mag, color matched wheels! I absolutely love the car and so will you once you know what I paid for it.....$600 cash. Here some pictures, I appreciate any comments! Thank you all for reading (If you did).
