this is the lastest g-body, only had cuttys so far, so switched it up and got this regal, $300 bucks, rims were $250 from a local seller. she needs some love with the body..but the frame is great and solid floors/truck, just the usual body spot as surface rust and some rot right through. stock driveline. the only problem i have is the steering feels REALLY, and i mean really "loose" it feels almost as if there is none but there is?what could this be its pretty sketchy to drive on highways.here she is for now..
If its that solid its a good score for $300 especially if it run decent. Good color to and the rims & tires give the car a good look. Not sure what to say about the steering. If you replace the steering you might look into a used unit from a GN/Ttype/442/MCSS or even f-bodys can be made to work. The faster steering box is a great & relatively inexpensive upgrade. What are you considering as your next upgrades?
The standard steering box in these cars is notoriously overboosted. It was designed for the era when people did not want to feel in any way connected to the road. Anyhow, find a box off a car with the FE2 or F41 suspension, and grab the sway bars while you are at it. Just be sure to grab the stuff from a V8 car as the V6 variant of this option uses smaller bars.
Anyways, you got a good deal on that Regal. The scrap value is more than $300, so most priced this low are bought by scrappers.
first plans are, the rear front bumpers are rusty, speacially the rear so i gotta get them changed, the engine needs a good complete tuneup and id like to get the body fixed quickly, this is just a daily driver "a to b" car for the highway for now, the frame and floors are solid tho so maybe it will be a street rod project in awhile, thanks for the help ill try and find that steering box, I also realized that you can "shake" the coul and after the tilt pivot point thats where it can move all around, would this have anything to do with the steering feeling so loose? my dad said theres set screws that need to be tightened in the colum
Nice lookin Regal. Probably most of that steering play is from the steering linkage. If you replace that and add some Bilstein shocks, it'll probably be much more solid and unfloatitized!
My regal was about the same color from the factory but the previous owner had a shitty paint job done to it, in an attempt to match the original but now, quite a few years later it looks like crap. Hopefully that will change soon 😀 . So what would your "street rod" plans be?
that pic makes the interior look good, its got a good amount of wear, cigarette holes in the seats, faded/craked dash top, things like that and stains. but plans for a street rod would be, get the body back to how it should be, black it out like the grand national, i love the firebird spoilers on these cars, and do up a 355 smallblock probably, a friday night street legal track type car but still daily driver. something mild but looks bad *ss,or leave the body rotten how it is and make a sleeper 8)
I also realized that you can "shake" the coul and after the tilt pivot point thats where it can move all around, would this have anything to do with the steering feeling so loose? my dad said theres set screws that need to be tightened in the colum
