can anyone recommend any info on putting bbc 454 with turbo 350 trans engine in el camino I was thinking of using 70s cast iron exhaust manifolds engine is stock very mild cam im not going to drag race I took out 350 with summit cast iron heads and cam with weight difference should I get a/c front springs I am removing a/c and using g/body a/c delete housing so will still have heat defrost or use non a/c springs :?

that site with spring info was very helpful after more research I think staying with sbc chevy saves the headache of p/s brackets and exhaust issues thankyou for the responding

today went to wrecking yard and picked up monte ss rear does anyone have info on what rears fit 1985 el camino after cleaning turns out rear is not a monte ss the ratio is 2.56 and wasn't posi although the tag said use limited slip gear lube I would like posi traction and ratio 3.08 to 3.73

Monte SS should have had either 3.42 or 3.73, depending on years. Posi was still an option, though. Any G-body 7.5" rear will be a direct bolt in, but to get the ratio you want, with posi, you will have to do some searching. My Elky came with 3.08 posi, but that was the highest ratio Elky's came with. To get higher, you either have to find a real Monet SS rear, or get lucky and find an 8.5" GN or 442 rear. These will fit, but will require the driveshaft to be shortened 1".

MIkesmontes.com usually has some used rears in stock, or you could also post/look over at montecarloss.com.

thanks for the information im still looking probably the 3.08 or 3.23 posi I am back to using the 454 engine that is rebuilt im hoping that with the posi rear I can use local boat ramp to launch and haul 21ft center console boat the engine was built for low end torque so it will run out of steam at 4500 rpm not a race engine just sturdy today was the forth round of steroid injection in lower back and next month will be number 5 this project is helping me to focus on the elky and not the gnawing lower back if I new how to take and post pictures I would thanks again

I wish you luck with the back man. I had to get 2 rounds of the shots myself. I could barley walk with a Cain, and could not get comfortable sitting or laying down for a while until then. Now I can feel my foot again and walk with out a noticeable limp, and the pain is manageable. Got off the pain meds with in a month of the second injection.

just got off phone with a gentleman that is parting out a monte ss and has the 373 posi rear and 700r4 trans left I am heading to lo look at this coming weekend the car was a rusty driver he was thinking of restoring but not enough metal left today was a good day lower back was pretty calm I was able to remove control arms and spindles and get the motor mounts off tomorrow hope to clean the parts
