Hey guys -
Got a question for you - I'm new on here, got an 85 Regal with a 350. Been sitting for 3-4 yrs in the garage and I finally have it here with me. Anyway, talking to my father-in-law-to-be, he said I might need to change the valve springs since it's been sitting...I contacted a local cylinder head shop and they want $2oo to disassemble, inspect and do any machining, if needed and re-assemble. The heads were completely re-done and rebuilt (along with the rest of the engine), car was never driven, just fired up a few times. Is it necessary to replace the springs since it's been sitting? I don't mind getting new springs and a valve spring compressor and replacing the springs, but I'd rather not pay $2oo for a tear down and inspection if I can avoid it...I also don't want complications when I go to start it up...thoughts anyone?

Couldn't hurt... but my car sat a long time and is over 30 yrs old and still runs alright. So, unless it is giving you problems I wouldn't mess with it.

they should be good. they wont wear or weaken from not being used. but if u decide to upgrade anyway check out competition products u can pick up some stock diameter springs for a decent price. way cheaper than any machine shop will charge.

Thanks for the responses guys - when it ran last, it was fine, there were no timing issues or anything - I just didn't want to start it up and have a valve to through a piston (which would be an extreme case, but still in the back of my mind)...I also don't want to put a bunch of $$ into them, my goal is next year to replace the heads with Vortec heads...I guess we'll see when its fired up.
