no brake lights

I always had a problem with no lights working in the back. I would have to wiggle the connector of the harness running into the trunk and they would work. Might not be your problem but just another thing to look at.

Another quirky problem may be that the wiring harness rubbed on the brake switch bracket and is shorted out. I had this happen on my car and found it when I smelled burning insulation. I had done it to myself because I had not properly reinstalled the harness to the dash when I has taken out the cluster. This was around 1994, so I am not too sure of all the details but I do know I pulled the dash and harness to find the problem and fix it properly. It sucked too because it cost me a night of pizza delivery. ( Yes, my Cutlass was my first delivery car and has 240k to show for it!)

well i got my chilton book and was looking at the wiring diagram and found that the signal and hazard wires ar diffrerent than the break lights. so i found a possible trouble spot where the wires are going to the rear by the rear driver side tire. the clip holding the harnis is broken and all the wires are held up by, get this, a piece of leather shoelace. sooo, im thinki9n that the exposed wires are eather warn out and touching or totally cutoff. so imma start from the rear bumper and work my way to the front to fidn the prob. well thanx fer the help anyways but im just gonna have to get under the car and get dirty.
