Hey all, first post here. Picked up a 79 malibu in spring and have been fixing the sins of the last hack that "built" it. It currently has a 355, th350, and a 12 bolt posi. Car was originally raced near Cincinnati area, but I have no info in it, other than a sticker in the back window. Yeah, I know its pretty loud looking(fugly), but it kinda grew on me after a while. Still not really a fan of red or yellow.

Welcome aboard man.
What are your plans for it in the future?

Well, in the last two weeks, I put in a manual steering box, low mount alternator, electric water pump, and rewired the starting and alternator. This winters plans are to put a sending unit in the fuel cell, a jeep steering shaft, poly body mounts, and control arm braces. And maybe a solid roller cam..

Sounds like you have a plan. That's always a good start.

I took it to the track twice this spring. My best time with it was 12.80. That was before I'd fixed anything on it. Carb was rich, timing was off, and there was a number of other things wrong with it. The cam seems to be the weak point of the whole drivetrain. The cam in my daily driver (67 el camino) seems bigger than the one in this car. With everything else done to the car, I'm thinking a solid roller around .500 lift would wake it up. Its currently running 4.11's, cheater slicks, 4000 stall, around 9.75:1 comp. Car is pretty light, stripped of anything not needed, race seats, glass hood and bumper.Im hoping to be in the low 12's by July

Tires are M/T E.T Street Pro 275/60/15. Camel hump heads, Victor Jr intake, 750 DP, Holley elec fuel pump. Moroso Trick Springs and Competition Engineering adjustable drag shocks in front, Lakewood adj drag shocks in rear with newer stock springs. I don't know what the current cam is, the car didn't come with the cam card. I may take it apart this winter if i have time and see what I find.
I've got a set of ported Brodix heads with shaft mounted rockers and Stahl pattern ports, but the chambers are super small, maybe 58cc, and I think that would jack the comp ratio up to where it wasn't streetable anymore. They would be fun though...
